A lot of this information may be old news to you, but I am trying to write a group letter so I don't have to send each of you a personalized email. I'd still be here at the computer instead of being at the car show in October if that was the case.
First off, the show is October 2nd starting at the ungodly hour of 7:30 am for set-up and picture taking. There will be a professional photographer there to take your car's picture. There is absolutely NO obligation of any kind to purchase these pictures. The show starts at 10am.
The show costs $17 at the gate or $15 to pre-register. Deadline to pre-register is September 25th. You can also pre-order your t-shirts and save $2 each. The t-shirts are for the all Pontiac car show, and not Firehawk shirts. I will talk to someone before the show and see if they can make up a shirt for us featuring the FirehawkFest. If I can find someone to make the shirts, I will take orders only at the show and once they are done I will mail them out. That way I won't get stuck with two dozen shirts that don't fit me.
You can pre-register for the show by mailing $15 to: Sacramento Pontiac Club, Pat Gumm, 11854 E. Norman, Stockton, CA 95215. Give Pat your name, address, any club affiliation, year and model of Pontiac or you can call Pat at: 209-462-6667 and she can mail you out a form. You can also try Rita Kauer at: 916-685-1283 and she will be able to get you a form and answer any questions about the Pontiac car show part of the event. The show will also feature dash plaques, raffle, 50/50 and food.
To get to the show you can enter from Hwy 99 or I-5. Take the Elk Grove exit. From Hwy 99 go west approx. 1/8 mile turn left at the stoplight to the Pontiac dealership. From I-5 go east 5 miles to Auto Center Drive. There is a Texaco station at the stoplight there. Turn right at the light to the dealership.
Judging for the car show is being done by popular vote. They will be awarding trophy's. Last year I believe they had 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each class. I am trying to get them to have SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) judges come in and judge the cars. As of right now, I am having a difficult time reaching them concerning this matter. I just don't want to see this become a popularity contest where the participants vote more for the person than the car. I would like your input on this subject too if you are planning on attending the show. Would you rather have participant voting for the trophies or have judges from the SCCA come in and do the judging?
Even if the Pontiac group does not want SCCA judges for their cars I can get them to come out and just judge the Firehawks. If I do this I will not have my car judged since I personally know one of the judges and although he swears he would be impartial in his judging I would not feel right if I were lucky enough to get placed in the top three.
I am getting a trophy made up at my expense which will be a peoples choice award. Everyone who attends the show will vote for the best Firehawk there (not their own) and the winner will get the trophy I'm having made up.
Donations will be accepted to help pay for the trophy at the show, depending on the number of entrants it shouldn't be more than 2-3 bucks apiece if everyone will kick in.
Another thing I need your input on is where to have our dinner. We have all the chains represented in the area so I'd like to know your choices. You can pick from the likes of Applebee's, Chili's, Chevy's, Round Table Pizza, Outback Steakhouse, Stuart Anderson's, TGIFriday's or whatever else we have. Dinner of course will be dutch treat. As soon as I know the restaurant I will have maps/directions made up for everyone to get from the car show to the restaurant. This way when we cruise we won't have to worry about getting lost or separated in a foreign place.
I contacted three different motels and the cheapest was the Comfort Inn at $48 + tax. I don't know one motel from the other, I just used the yellow pages and talked to the respective managers and told them the deal I had. For $48 you get a continental breakfast, pool and spa, cable TV with premium channels some rooms have refrigerators and microwaves and all in a courtyard setting.
To get these rates you have to mention The Firehawk Association and the General Manager's name, which is Mark. The motel is located at: 3240 Mather Field Road, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670. The phone number is: 916-363-3344.
If I have forgotten something or if you have any additional questions you need answered just email me at: or you can contact Pat Gumm or Rita Kauer about the car show.
Either way I am looking forward to meeting you and having a fun weekend very soon.
Regards,
Bob Deffenbaugh 1993 Firehawk #110
